The Edwenase Rehabilitation Center in the Ashanti Region has received food and essential items valued at GH¢30,000, along with additional cash support, from the Kumi Yeboah Memorial Foundation, a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), in a gesture aimed at improving the welfare of persons living with disabilities at the facility.
The donation, which was made on Saturday, December 20, 2025, brought relief to more than 150 residents, many of whom depend entirely on the center for daily meals, care, and basic necessities, especially during the Christmas season.
The items presented included bags of rice and sugar, assorted soft drinks, canned milk, cooking oil, detergents, toiletries, and boxes of biscuits. In addition to the items, the foundation also presented an undisclosed amount of cash in an envelope to support the operational needs of the center.
Presenting the donation, the Public Relations Officer of the foundation, Mr. Shadrach Osei Bonsu, said the gesture was motivated by the organisation’s commitment to supporting vulnerable groups and promoting dignity and inclusion in society. He urged management and staff of the center to ensure that the donated items and cash support are used strictly for their intended purposes, particularly for the benefit of the children and other residents.
According to him, the foundation’s continued support is dependent on transparency and proper utilisation of resources, adding that responsible use of the donation would encourage the organisation to return with similar interventions in the future.
Management of the Edwenase Rehabilitation Center expressed deep appreciation to the Kumi Yeboah Memorial Foundation for the timely support and assured the NGO that all donated items and cash would be used solely for their intended purposes. They pledged accountability and transparency in the management of the support received.
The House Master of the center, Mr. Ofori Kwabena, noted that the facility consistently faces feeding and logistical challenges due to the large number of residents under its care, stressing that the donation would significantly ease the burden during the festive period.
“With over 150 persons depending on us daily, support of this nature is not only helpful but truly lifesaving,” he said, while appealing to other NGOs, corporate bodies, philanthropists, and well-meaning Ghanaians to support the center.
The Kumi Yeboah Memorial Foundation was founded by Mrs. Sarah Baah-Afriyie, also known as Baah-Donkor, in memory of her late father, Kumi Yeboah. Over the years, the NGO has supported cancer patients at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, assisted widows, persons with disabilities, and needy students, and consistently advocated for health, dignity, and social inclusion.
The foundation’s intervention at Edwenase Rehabilitation Center highlights the critical role Non-Governmental Organisations continue to play in complementing government efforts to support vulnerable populations and strengthen social welfare systems.
