The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Ejisu in the Ashanti Region, Hon. Jerryne Asante, has raised serious concerns over growing internal pressure from some supporters of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) demanding the dismissal of New Patriotic Party (NPP) affiliated workers and assembly members within the municipality.

According to the MCE, she has been confronted by individuals within the party who are insisting that she should remove all NPP members currently serving in various capacities in the Ejisu Municipal Assembly.

Hon. Asante disclosed that she is in possession of video evidence showing two NDC members , a male and a female urging her to take immediate action against opposition-linked officials.
“They are suggesting that I should sack all the 24 NPP assembly members and even the Presiding Member, otherwise they claim I am destroying the NDC in the constituency,” she revealed.

The situation, she noted, has created unnecessary tension within the local political environment and threatens to distract from the development agenda her administration is pursuing.

Beyond the assembly members, the MCE said the pressure is extending further, with calls from some party activists for the dismissal of government workers believed to be aligned with the NPP.

“They are also suggesting that I should sack NPP government workers in the municipality,” she stated.

However, Hon. Asante has firmly rejected such demands, describing them as unlawful, divisive, and contrary to Ghana’s democratic principles and public service regulations.

The Ejisu MCE stressed that political witch-hunting has no place in governance, particularly within a democratic system where public servants are expected to serve the state regardless of political affiliation.

“This is not something the law permits us to do,” she said. “Governance must be based on legality, fairness, and competence, not partisan persecution.”
She emphasized that the mandate of her office is to ensure development and service delivery, not to engage in politically motivated dismissals.

Clearly frustrated by the situation, Hon. Asante has called on regional party executives and leadership of the NDC to intervene and advise party members to focus on progress rather than unnecessary calls for dismissals.

“This has compelled me to call on party executives in the region to advise our supporters to concentrate on the good work the NDC is doing, and the work I am doing as MCE with President John Dramani Mahama’s support,” she said.

She warned that internal division and intolerance could undermine the party’s achievements and weaken public confidence in the administration.

Commitment to Inclusive Governance
Hon. Asante reaffirmed the NDC government’s commitment to inclusivity and national unity, reminding party supporters that the administration promised an all-inclusive approach to governance.

“We promised obiaa bedidi — an inclusive government where everyone benefits,” she noted.

She urged party faithful to uphold the values of tolerance, professionalism, and respect for democratic institutions, stressing that the priority should remain on improving lives through development projects and effective municipal administration.

Political observers say the incident highlights the need for greater political maturity among grassroots activists, especially in a democracy where changes in government must not translate into victimization of public servants.

Hon. Asante’s stance has been widely seen as a call for responsible leadership and adherence to the rule of law.

As tensions simmer, residents of Ejisu and party supporters alike are being encouraged to prioritize unity and development over partisan retribution.
The MCE concluded with a strong message: governance must serve the people, not political vendettas.

“This municipality needs progress, not persecution,” she said.
