The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) has granted enquiry bail to the Member of Parliament (MP) for Suame, John Darko, following his appearance before investigators in connection with an alleged criminal conspiracy that has resulted in a revised financial loss of approximately GH¢27 million to SIC Savings and Loans Company Limited.

The Office, in a news release dated October 13, 2026, said Mr. Darko honoured an invitation extended to him as part of ongoing investigations into the matter.
According to EOCO, the Suame MP reported to its office at exactly 12 noon yesterday and cooperated fully with investigators throughout the process.
The Office explained that its decision to grant him enquiry bail was based on the circumstances of the case, the applicable law and the MP’s level of cooperation with investigators.
It stressed, however, that investigations into the alleged criminal conspiracy were still ongoing and that no conclusion had been reached regarding the culpability or otherwise of any individual connected to the matter.
GH¢27M FINANCIAL LOSS
In the statement, EOCO disclosed that the investigation centres on an alleged criminal conspiracy that has resulted in a revised financial loss estimated at approximately GH¢27 million to SIC Savings and Loans Company Limited.
The Office did not provide further details about the alleged conspiracy or the specific role investigators believe any individual may have played in the matter.
Mr. Darko was invited to assist investigators with information relevant to the ongoing inquiry.
EOCO said the MP honoured the invitation and remained respectful, cooperative and responsive during the investigative process.
The granting of enquiry bail does not, in itself, establish guilt or innocence, as the investigation remains active.
FORMER MD COOPERATES
EOCO also disclosed that the former Managing Director of SIC Life Savings and Loans, Amma Frimpomaa Dwamah, had honoured the Office’s invitation and was cooperating with investigators.
The statement did not indicate whether any charges had been brought against her or provide further details about the information she was assisting investigators to establish.
Her cooperation, together with Mr. Darko’s appearance, forms part of the ongoing efforts by EOCO to investigate the alleged financial irregularities and establish the facts surrounding the reported loss.
The Office maintained that the investigation was progressing steadily in accordance with its case theory.
NO CONCLUSION REACHED
EOCO was emphatic that the investigation had not reached a conclusion regarding the culpability of any person connected to the matter.
It urged the public to recognise that the process remained active, with investigators continuing their work to establish the circumstances surrounding the alleged criminal conspiracy.
“As the investigation remains active, no conclusion has been reached regarding the culpability or otherwise of any person connected to the matter,” the Office stated.
The clarification underscores the distinction between being invited to assist an investigation and being found culpable of an offence.
The granting of enquiry bail to Mr. Darko is therefore not a determination of the merits of the allegations under investigation.
EOCO’S MANDATE
EOCO is mandated to investigate and, where appropriate, facilitate the prosecution of serious economic and organised crimes.
The Office’s latest statement signals that investigations into the alleged financial loss involving SIC Savings and Loans Company Limited remain underway.
However, the statement did not disclose a timeline for the conclusion of the investigation or indicate whether further persons would be invited to assist investigators.
It also did not provide details of the transactions or events that allegedly resulted in the revised GH¢27 million loss.
The public will therefore have to await further official communication from EOCO as the investigation progresses.

The statement was signed by the Head of the Corporate Affairs and Public Education Unit for the Executive Director and issued on October 13, 2026.
