Immediate Past Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCES) under President Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo-Addo have petitioned the Vice President, Dr. Mahamodu Bawumia to help in addressing issues affecting them.
In the statement copied to newsmen today, the aggrieved former MMDCEs drew the attention of the Veep to the issues affecting them with regards to their end of service benefits.
Mr. Leo-Nelson Adzidogah, the immediate past MCE for Akatsi mentioned some of the pressing issues as the sluggish manner in which their End of Service Benefits (ESB) are being addressed and pointed to the prompt manner in which MMDCEs under President John Mahama were sorted out by the NPP government when it assumed power in 2017.
They former MMDCEs did not understand why their own government is treating them this way with the piece meal payment, which depreciating the real value of their End of Service Benefits (ESB).
The statement said most of the MMDCEs are bitter about the total neglect by the government they worked hard to ensure that we retain power citing the fact that some of them were Parliamentary Candidates in 2020 who campaigned vigorously for the party to be given another mandate.
They also complained that the party structures do not recognize them as former MMDCEs in order to situate their roles within the context of the party activities and programmes.
The MMDCEs have therefore suggested that the Vice President initiates an engagement with all the immediate past MMDCEs at the earliest convenience to address.
The statement reminded the government that some of the former MMDCEs are experiencing perennial health challenges and need money for regular medical checkups .
It said the government must be concerned about the rate at which the former MMDCEs are passing on to eternity, noting that some of these deaths could have been avoided if funds were handy to manage basic medical care.
The petitioners said it is important these issues are handled in a proactive manner to help address these issues to push our party forward and help retain power.
The MMDCEs, therefore, suggest that their ESB is paid in full, including the 2021, in order to give us financial relief to energize and galvanize them into a serious campaign mode.
They also want all former MMDCEs to be recognised as such and brought on board and effectively deployed to get involved in the campaign with Parliamentary Candidates to ensure an easy and smooth electoral victory in the 2024 elections. E N D
