The Amansie Central District Chief Executive (DCE), Mr Emmanuel Obeng-Agyemang, has commissioned and handed over a newly constructed Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compound at Fenaso No. 3 in the Amansie Central District of the Ashanti Region.
The facility is expected to improve access to quality and affordable primary healthcare for residents of Fenaso No. 3 and surrounding communities, particularly by reducing the distance residents have to travel to access basic healthcare services.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Mr Obeng-Agyemang said the completion of the facility formed part of efforts by the government and the district assembly to strengthen healthcare delivery at the community level.
He said the CHPS compound would help bring essential health services closer to the people and contribute to improving the health and well-being of residents.
The DCE described the facility as a practical demonstration of the commitment to ensuring that residents, particularly those in rural communities, had access to healthcare without having to travel long distances.
He stressed that healthcare was a fundamental right and not a privilege, and therefore called for continued investment in community-based health facilities.
“Health is not a privilege, but a right,” Mr Obeng-Agyemang stated.
Protect facility
Mr Obeng-Agyemang urged the people of Fenaso No. 3 and neighbouring communities to take ownership of the facility and protect it from vandalism, theft and other forms of misuse.
He said the sustainability of the facility would depend not only on government investment but also on the willingness of the beneficiary communities to protect and maintain it.
He appealed to residents to report any acts of vandalism or activities that could undermine the effective operation of the facility.
The DCE further encouraged the health personnel who would be posted to the facility to discharge their duties with professionalism, dedication and compassion.
He said the people deserved quality healthcare services and urged the personnel to treat patients with respect while responding promptly to their healthcare needs.
Quality healthcare
The Amansie Central District Health Director, Dr Ahmed Oppong Ampratwum, assured residents that the Ghana Health Service (GHS) would work to ensure that the facility provided quality and dedicated healthcare services.
He said the GHS would ensure that the CHPS compound was properly maintained and effectively utilised to serve the purpose for which it was established.
Dr Oppong Ampratwum urged residents to make good use of the facility and cooperate with health personnel to promote good health in the community.
He said the presence of the CHPS compound would enhance the delivery of preventive and promotive healthcare services and support early detection and management of diseases.
Scope of services
The Fenaso No. 3 CHPS compound is expected to provide a range of essential primary healthcare services, including preventive healthcare, maternal and child health services, health education, disease prevention, early detection of illnesses and other community-based health interventions.
The facility is also expected to contribute to improved maternal and child health outcomes by making basic healthcare services more accessible to pregnant women, nursing mothers and children within the catchment area.
Residents of Fenaso No. 3 and adjoining communities are expected to benefit from the facility through easier access to health professionals and timely medical attention.
The commissioning of the facility therefore marks an important step towards strengthening community-level healthcare delivery in the Amansie Central District and ensuring that residents have access to essential health services closer to their homes.
