Unknown assailants lynched to death a final-year science student at Ofori Panin Senior High School (OPASS) in the Eastern region in Koforidua.

A passerby discovered the 19-year-old student Kelvin Bonzy alias Paa Kwasi in a pool of blood battling for his life near Koforidua Technical University (KTU) with multiple knife wounds Wednesday evening.

He was taken to St. Joseph Hospital but died early Thursday morning.

His former teacher described the victim, who was preparing to take the West Africa Secondary Schools Certificate Examination (WASSCE) next month, as a brilliant student.

According to his parents, they hoped he would become a doctor.

During a visit to the family home, many residents and family friends gathered to commiserate with the family.

An attempt to label him a criminal was rejected by his family.

Kelvin is said to have returned home on vacation to attend her sister’s wedding over the weekend.

In the meantime, police have launched an investigation into the incident.
