The Office of the Former President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has issued a rejoinder dated 16th December 2025, rejecting a recent publication by the _Herald Newspaper_ regarding alleged attempts by the former President to approach President John Dramani Mahama for assurances about the safe passage of Mr. Ofori-Atta.

The statement describes the newspaper’s claim that Former President Akufo-Addo was “considering approaching President John Dramani Mahama to seek assurances of the safe passage for Ofori-Atta” as *utterly false* and a total fabrication. The Office emphatically asserts that Nana Akufo-Addo has neither contemplated nor made any such request or representation to President Mahama, his agents, or assigns.

The former President’s Office underscores his unwavering fidelity to the rule of law and democratic principles, noting that his commitment to legal governance has never been in question. While acknowledging a personal concern for the fate of Mr. Ofori-Atta—who is his cousin and served as Finance Minister under his administration—the Office clarifies that this concern does not extend to interfering with the rule of law.

The Office demands that all media outlets that reported the original story reproduce the full rejoinder in accordance with the former President’s rights, ensuring accurate representation of the facts.

The statement is signed by the Office of the Former President, H.E. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
