The Member of Parliament (MP) for Tano North Constituency in the Ahafo Region, Hon. Dr. Gideon Boako, has urged Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) graduates not to allow their examination results to determine their future or discourage them from pursuing their educational aspirations.
He said while students who had performed well in the examination should be encouraged to work even harder to improve upon their achievements, those whose results were not impressive should equally remain focused and determined to succeed in their subsequent stages of education.
According to Dr. Boako, the BECE was only one stage in the academic journey of the students and should, therefore, not be treated as the final determinant of their future.
He urged the newly admitted Senior High School (SHS) students to remain proactive, disciplined and committed to their studies as they prepared to begin another important chapter of their academic lives.
The MP made the remarks at a ceremony organised to distribute educational support items to 2,300 BECE graduates in the Tano North Constituency.
The initiative, he said, was aimed at reducing the financial burden on parents and guardians and ensuring that students had some of the basic materials required to begin their SHS education.
The items distributed included school trunks, mattresses, books, scientific calculators and boxes of chalk.
The ceremony, which attracted parents, students, traditional leaders and other stakeholders, was held at the Duay Nkwanta Catholic School Park.
Avoid Stealing
Dr. Boako also cautioned the students against stealing and taking things that did not belong to them, stressing the need for them to develop good character and discipline as they progressed in their education.
He advised them to avoid activities that could distract them from their academic responsibilities and instead devote their time and energy to learning.
He said academic success required commitment, perseverance and responsible behaviour, urging the beneficiaries to make good use of the opportunity provided to them.
The MP further encouraged parents to continue supporting their children and wards with the necessary guidance and motivation to enable them to achieve their educational goals.
Samira Commends Boako
The former Second Lady of the Republic, Hajia Samira Bawumia, who also addressed the gathering, commended Dr. Boako for what she described as his continued support for the people of the Tano North Constituency.
She said the constituency needed visionary leadership to help create opportunities for its young people and contribute to the development of the area.
Hajia Samira encouraged the beneficiaries to take their education seriously and work hard to acquire the knowledge and skills needed to contribute meaningfully to the development of the constituency and the country.
She urged them to see education as an important tool for personal advancement and community development.
She also called on the students to remain focused and disciplined throughout their academic journey, stressing the importance of hard work and determination.
Queen Mother Cautions Girls
The Paramount Queen Mother of the Duay Nkwanta Traditional Council, Nana Yaa Serwaa, also cautioned the students, particularly the girls, against engaging in activities that could result in teenage or early pregnancy.
She urged the young girls to protect their future by remaining focused on their education and avoiding relationships and other activities that could interfere with their academic progress.
Nana Yaa Serwaa further appealed to men in the community to stay away from underage girls and allow them the opportunity to pursue their education without undue pressure or interference.
She said protecting young girls was a shared responsibility involving parents, traditional leaders, teachers, community members and other stakeholders.
The Queen Mother encouraged the beneficiaries to make education their priority and take advantage of the support provided to them to build a brighter future.
The distribution of the educational items forms part of efforts to support BECE graduates in the constituency as they transition from basic education to Senior High School.
