The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), Sammy Gyamfi, Esq., has called on Africans living abroad to shift their focus from merely sending remittances home to making strategic investments that will accelerate the continent’s economic transformation.
Speaking at the Africa Rising Symposium held in London, Mr. Gyamfi stressed that the African diaspora has a critical role to play in unlocking the continent’s enormous economic potential through investments in businesses, skills development, innovation, infrastructure and sustainable partnerships.
According to him, while remittances have remained an important source of support for many African families, the continent’s long-term development depends on productive investments that create jobs, build industries and strengthen institutions.
He urged Africans in the diaspora to channel more resources into enterprises that add value to Africa’s abundant natural resources instead of allowing the continent to remain largely dependent on exporting raw materials.
Mr. Gyamfi noted that Africa possesses vast mineral wealth, fertile agricultural land and a youthful population capable of driving rapid economic growth if supported with the right investments and policies.
He stressed that the time had come for Africans to take greater ownership of their resources and ensure that more of the value generated from the continent’s wealth remained within Africa to improve livelihoods and foster sustainable development.
The GoldBod CEO further advocated stronger collaboration between African governments, private sector players and the diaspora to build resilient economies capable of competing globally.
He observed that partnerships built on innovation, technology transfer and skills development would position African countries to maximise the benefits of their natural resources while creating opportunities for future generations.
Mr. Gyamfi concluded his address with a powerful message of hope and self-belief, declaring, “Africa is rising. Let Africans rise with her.”
His remarks were widely seen as a renewed call for Africans across the world to become active participants in the continent’s economic renaissance by investing not only financial resources but also knowledge, expertise and networks to drive inclusive and sustainable growth.
