In a creative move, the NDC government has decided to repurpose seized excavators from illegal mining sites for road construction.

Lands and Natural Resources Minister, Hon. Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah, announced that the excavators will be incorporated into the District Roads Improvement Program (DRIP) machine.

This initiative aims to promote infrastructure development while tackling the issue of illegal mining.

According to him,President Mahama has advised against destroying the excavators, instead opting for a practical solution.

The government has seized 15 excavators and arrested illegal miners in the Ashanti Region.

The Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, is leading the charge against illegal mining, warning that armed miners will not be tolerated.

The minister vowed to decentralize the fight, emphasizing that legal mining pathways exist, but illegal activities in forest reserves will not be permitted.

A stern warning was issued to those aiding or financing illegal mining, as well as those attacking journalists reporting on the issue.

Law enforcement has been reassured of the President’s full backing to arrest, prosecute, and jail illegal miners.

The fight against illegal mining continues, with the goal of preserving Ghana’s forests and rivers.
