In order to curb the menace of indiscriminate plastic waste disposal at the Asafo electoral area and its environs, the Assembly Member for the area Hon Ernest Okai in collaboration with KMA Waste Management Department and Environment 360 have constructed Asafo plastic collection centre.
The construction of the Asafo Plastic Collection Centre is in fulfillment of his promise of prioritizing sanitation in the area.
Mr Okai spoke to Akoma news on his resolve to make Asafo one of the cleanest communities in the Ashanti region.
According to him,the Centre will create employment for the youth as the Centre will serve as a hub where all the plastic collected by the youth will be bought for recycling.
Nana Kwabena Asante, Project Manager of Environment 360,said, proper disposal of plastic waste will help curb perennial flooding in the metropolis..
Deputy Director of Waste Management at KMA Osei Asibey was optimistic this venture will help resolve the plastic waste menace in the Kumasi Metropolis.
The project was financed by GIZ through the German federal state of North Rhine Westphalia.
