As I reflect on my recent participation in the World University Service of Canada’s INVEST Project media engagement, I am compelled to emphasize the significance of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) for young girls.

The focus on gender equality and women in TVET resonated deeply, and I am eager to encourage more young women to pursue TVET courses at the senior high school (SHS) and tertiary levels.

JOB SECURITY

TVET offers a plethora of benefits, equipping individuals with 21st-century skills that are highly sought after in the job market.

In today’s competitive landscape, employers prioritize candidates with practical skills and training, ensuring job security and stability.

PROMOTING GENDA EQUALITY

Moreover, TVET promotes gender equality by providing women with the opportunity to enter traditionally male-dominated fields, armed with the skills and confidence to excel.

TVET also fosters independence, enabling women to pursue their careers without intimidation or harassment.

GOVERNMENT’S INVESTMENT

With the government’s substantial investment in tooling and retooling schools with state-of-the-art infrastructure, TVET institutions in Ghana are now equipped to provide holistic training.

This offer students with unlimited opportunities to explore and acquire skills for their future endeavors.

I must commend the efforts of the Education Minister, Dr. Osei Yaw Adutwum, who has prioritized the development of TVET in Ghana. His leadership has ensured that TVET schools are equipped with the necessary resources, providing students with a comprehensive learning experience.

NEW STANDARD BASED CURRICULUM FOR SHS FOCUS ON TVET

The National Council for Curriculum and Assessment’s (NaCCA) introduction of a new Standard-Based Curriculum for SHS students, with a strong focus on TVET, further solidifies the foundation for students to excel.

I urge young girls to embrace TVET courses, as they hold the key to a brighter future. By doing so, they will not only acquire in-demand skills but also contribute to bridging the gender gap in male-dominated industries. Let us empower the next generation of women to reach their full potential through TVET.

PARENTS AND GUARDIANS

I encourage parents, educators, and mentors to support and encourage young girls to explore TVET courses, paving the way for a future filled with opportunities and success.
