Interior Minister Commiserates with Adum PZ Fire Victims

Alhaji Muntaka Mubarak, the Minister for Interior yesterday visited the Adum PZ fire site to commiserate with the victims and assess the damage.

The Minister was accompanied by the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, the Regional Police Commander, and officials from the Ghana National Fire Service and National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO).

During the visit, the Minister consoled the victims and assured them of the government’s support. He announced that the government would collaborate with the Employment Ministry to provide training in basic firefighting techniques to youths recruited into public institutions. This initiative aims to prevent future fire outbreaks by ensuring adequate vigilance at public places, institutions, and marketplaces.

The Minister also disclosed plans to modernize the market, making it more accessible and congestion-free in case of emergencies. Dr. Amoakohene, the Ashanti Regional Minister, urged the victims to remain calm and allow the authorities to take the necessary steps to prevent similar incidents in the future.

Relief Efforts

The government has mobilized a total of GH¢600,000 to support the victims, including:

– A GH¢500,000 donation from a philanthropist
– An additional GH¢100,000 allocated for urgent support

The Minister for Interior donated 1,500 bags of rice and 800 boxes of cooking oil to the association. These relief efforts demonstrate the government’s commitment to supporting the affected traders as they rebuild their businesses.
