Investing in irrigation systems will improve yield and reduce prices of farm produce – Dumelo

Parliamentary candidate for the Ayawaso West Wugon constituency, John Dumelo, has urged the government to invest in irrigation systems across the country.

He believes that this is the only way farm produce will become cheaper in the West African country.

John Dumelo was reacting to news that prices of tomatoes have decreased across the country.

He attributed the reduction in the price of tomatoes to the increase in rains in recent times, indicating that prices will further decrease with the rains.

John Dumelo, who made this post on X, said, “The prices will keep dropping. Simply put, a lot of farmers are harvesting because they use rain as a water source. We will soon have a glut. This is not rocket science. What we should invest in is serious irrigation systems that can power farms to feed the nation all year round. This is when we will have price stability.”

Relatedly, flabearer for the New patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has assured farmers of a new wave when he takes over as President.

He believes that the country’s farming practices are those of the past, and therefore, systems from China and Brazil will be adopted to improve productivity, adding that the government will substitute fertilizer for lime.
