The Ashanti Regional Organiser of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Isham A. Yaw Bonsu, has officially declared his intention to contest the upcoming NDC Ashanti Regional Chairman election.
Mr. Bonsu, who has successfully picked his nomination forms to participate in the contest, said his decision was motivated by his desire to rebuild the party, empower the grassroots and restore hope among members across the region.
In a communiqué addressed to executives, delegates and supporters of the NDC in the Ashanti Region, the Regional Organiser expressed gratitude to the party’s rank and file for the opportunity given him to serve in his current position.
He said his tenure as Regional Organiser, together with the other regional executives, had been characterised by hard work aimed at securing victory for the NDC and returning the party to power.
“I wish to express my profound gratitude to you for the opportunity to serve as your Regional Organiser. Together with my colleague executives, we worked tirelessly to secure our resounding victory and bring our great party back to power,” he stated.
Grassroots
According to Mr. Bonsu, his decision to seek the chairmanship position was not driven by personal ambition but by a commitment to strengthening the party from the grassroots.
He described the grassroots membership as the foundation and lifeblood of the NDC, stressing the need for leadership that would prioritise their welfare, empowerment and participation in the affairs of the party.
“I wish to reaffirm that I have availed myself to contest as Regional Chairman in the upcoming regional elections. This is not driven by personal ambition, but by a deep commitment to rebuild, empower and restore hope to our grassroots base, who are the very foundation and lifeblood of our great party,” he said.
Mr. Bonsu’s declaration adds another dimension to the impending regional-level contest as the party prepares to elect new executives to steer its affairs in the Ashanti Region.
The Ashanti Region remains one of the key political battlegrounds for the NDC, making the choice of regional leadership particularly significant to the party’s organisational activities and future electoral strategy.
Peaceful contest
The NDC Regional Organiser also appealed to all stakeholders to ensure that the internal election was conducted in a peaceful, respectful and unifying manner.
He called on executives, delegates and supporters to support a campaign devoid of rancour and divisions, while urging party members to put the collective interest of the NDC above individual considerations.
“As we enter this internal contest, I humbly call for a peaceful, decorous and unifying campaign,” he stated.
He further appealed to delegates and supporters for their “unflinching support, prayers and counsel” as he embarks on his campaign to lead the regional branch of the party.
Mr. Bonsu is expected to engage party executives, delegates and grassroots members across the region as part of efforts to explain his vision and seek their backing ahead of the election.
He concluded his message with a call for the continued advancement of the NDC and the nation, declaring: “Long Live Ghana! Long Live NDC! Long Live Ashanti NDC!”
If successful, Mr. Bonsu will take over the leadership of the Ashanti Regional branch of the NDC with a stated agenda centred on rebuilding the party, empowering its grassroots and promoting unity among its members.
