The Ashanti Youth has banned the Ashanti regional Chairman of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr Bernard Antwi Boasiako popularly called “Wontumi” from the Asante Kingdom for allegedly saying that he has “built his own kingdom with military and police force in the Asante Kingdom”

While asking him to go and dwell in the kingdom he claimed to have built, the angry youth which addressed a press conference today in Kumasi, did not only ban him from the region but also from entering the Manhyia Palace and any other palace in the region.

The Spokesperson for the angry youth, Mr Eugene Oppong, described Wontumi’s outburst as “uncalled-for” and an “exhibition of lack of respect for the golden stool” and urged him to publicly render an unqualified apology to the Asanteman before his acceptance in the Asanteman will be considered.

Chairman Wontumi is alleged to have said during the vetting of the NPP parliamentary Aspirants in the Ashanti region that he has “built his own kingdom with military and police force in the Asante Kingdom”.

This was after the Manhyia South Organiser for the NPP, Alhaji Abuba had allegedly confronted Wontumi during the vetting.

Due to the comment by Wontumi, Mr Oppong said, that the Chief of Kokoso, Nana Kwaku Duah, who is the Council of Elders Chairman for Manhyia South, and was part of the vetting committee confronted him and made it categorically clear to him, that apart from Asantehene, no one in the Asante Kingdom own a kingdom.

However, he said, Chairman Wontumi further replied to the Kokoso Chief that he was entitled to speak his mind in the Asante Kingdom even if he disagreed with Asantehene.

The youth, therefore, urged Wontumi to publicly apologize to Asanteman for such a comment before they would consider him to enter the Asante Kingdom and any palace in the kingdom.
