As the clock struck midnight and ushered in the year 2026, the Mayor of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA), Hon. Richard Ofori-Agyeman Boadi, has released an official New Year communiqué addressed to the citizens of the Ashanti regional capital.

In a message characterized by optimism and a call for civic unity, the Mayor outlined a vision for the “Garden City” that prioritizes safety, inclusivity, and shared economic progress.

In his formal address, Hon. Ofori-Agyeman Boadi extended his warmest wishes to the millions of residents and businesses that make up the vibrant fabric of Kumasi.

Acknowledging the challenges and triumphs of the previous year, the Mayor emphasized that 2026 stands as a gateway to “renewed hope.”

“May the year ahead bring renewed hope, progress, and shared prosperity,” the Mayor stated. “Together, we remain committed to building a safer, stronger, and more inclusive city for all.”

The mention of “shared prosperity” is seen by political analysts as a reaffirmation of the Assembly’s commitment to ensuring that the city’s development projects—ranging from market upgrades to road infrastructure—benefit all socioeconomic classes within the metropolis.

The Three Pillars of the 2026 Vision
The Mayor’s message highlighted three specific goals for his administration in the coming year:

A Safer Kumasi: Building on existing security frameworks, the KMA intends to further collaborate with security agencies to enhance urban safety and emergency response times.

A Stronger Economy: With Kumasi being a central hub for trade in West Africa, the Mayor’s focus on a “stronger” city points toward supporting local entrepreneurs and the modernization of the city’s commercial centers.

Inclusivity for All: A key theme of the address was the commitment to an “inclusive city,” suggesting a focus on social interventions, disability-friendly infrastructure, and ensuring that no neighborhood is left behind in the urban renewal agenda.

Digital Engagement and Transparency
Reflecting a shift toward modern governance, the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly has encouraged residents to stay informed through its official digital channels.

By directing citizens to their handle @KumasiMetroCity across X, Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube, the Mayor’s office aims to foster a more transparent and interactive relationship between the city’s leadership and its people.

As celebrations continue throughout the metropolis, the Mayor’s message serves as a reminder of the collective responsibility required to maintain Kumasi’s status as a beacon of culture and commerce in Ghana.
