The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) office of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), led by Mr Godwin Dela Larho has undertaken a significant initiative to enhance its operational efficiency and staff capacity.

The office recently conducted a working visit to all five Sub-Metropolitan offices under its jurisdiction, marking a crucial step towards strengthening engagement and aligning operations with the KMA NADMO Action Plan.

The primary objective of the visit was to officially introduce the new management team to the sub-metro staff, fostering direct communication and collaboration. This move aims to ensure uniformity in planning and execution across all sub-metro offices, ultimately enhancing the organization’s disaster management capabilities.

As part of the initiative, a comprehensive training program has been scheduled to equip key personnel with essential skills. The training will focus on effective report writing and formal communication, targeting Sub-Metro Operations Heads, their Deputies, and Administrators. This capacity-building effort will improve coordination between sub-metro offices and the central KMA NADMO office.

During the tour, the team identified significant operational challenges, including:

– Staffing Imbalances: Some sub-metros were found to be overstaffed, while others faced severe shortages, highlighting the need for a more balanced approach to staffing.
– Infrastructure Issues: Malfunctioning computers and printers, as well as a lack of furniture (tables and chairs), were flagged as critical issues requiring urgent attention.

The visit was deemed both impactful and refreshing, leaving staff motivated and better positioned to deliver on NADMO’s mandate within the Metropolis. By addressing operational challenges and building staff capacity, KMA NADMO is poised to enhance its disaster management capabilities and serve the community more effectively.

“The tour has been instrumental in strengthening our engagement with staff at the sub-metro level and aligning our operations with the KMA NADMO Action Plan,” a NADMO official noted. “We are committed to addressing the operational challenges and ensuring that our staff are equipped to deliver on our mandate.”
