The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) has imposed a temporary ban on the erection of billboards within the metropolis until further notice.
The directive, contained in a press release issued by the Assembly on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, is aimed at ensuring that outdoor advertising structures operating within the KMA jurisdiction comply with the Assembly’s permitting and fee-payment requirements.
The temporary ban affects all outdoor advertising operators, billboard owners and managers, as well as individuals or entities that rent out billboard spaces within the metropolis.
The Assembly has consequently directed all affected operators to report to the Physical Planning Department of the KMA to submit their relevant documentation for verification.
According to the release, operators are required to produce valid permits and proof of payment of the appropriate fees for the 2026 financial year.
14-day deadline
The KMA has given billboard operators a 14-day period, effective Tuesday, September 1, 2026, to submit the required documentation and comply with the directive.
The Assembly cautioned that any billboard structure whose operator failed to provide valid proof of the requisite permit and payment within the stipulated period would be subject to removal.
The directive forms part of measures by the Assembly to strengthen regulation and compliance within the outdoor advertising sector in the metropolis.
The Assembly said the verification exercise would enable it to establish the status of existing billboard structures and ensure that operators were duly authorised to undertake outdoor advertising activities within the KMA jurisdiction.
Reporting centre
Billboard operators have been directed to report to the Physical Planning Department of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly, located at the Adum Ministries area, near the Ghana Immigration Service Regional Command.
The Assembly has also urged all affected persons to take advantage of the 14-day window to regularise their operations and avoid possible enforcement action.
The KMA warned that failure to meet the requirements within the stipulated period would result in the removal of affected billboard structures.
