The pupils and staff of Kotokro Methodist Primary School in the Bekwai Municipality, Ashanti Region, have expressed their heartfelt gratitude to Madam Amanda Okyere, a prominent female politician and Presidential Aide, for rehabilitating their dilapidated six-unit classroom block.
Additionally, Madam Okyere donated ten branded HP laptops to enhance ICT education for the pupils and staff.
The rehabilitation project, which has brought new life to the school’s infrastructure, was officially handed over to the school’s administration and the community today.
The headmaster, Mr. Owusu Collins, praised Madam Okyere’s initiative and called for God’s blessings upon her and her family.
Despite the positive development, Mr. Owusu Collins expressed concern about the impact of mining activities in the area on pupils’ attitude towards education.
He noted that the school’s enrollment stands at 245, which is lower than expected due to the allure of mining activities.
The headmaster urged parents to ensure their wards prioritize education and appealed to the government to post more teachers to the school, which currently has only seven teachers.
Mr. Owusu Collins also appealed to Madam Amanda Okyere to consider constructing teachers’ bungalows to address the accommodation challenges faced by staff.
He emphasized that the lack of accommodation and internet access discourages teachers from accepting postings to the school.
Furthermore, he requested the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, to facilitate mobile network accessibility in the community to benefit pupils, teachers, and residents.
Dr. Amoakohene, representing Madam Amanda Okyere who is currently indisposed , officially handed over the rehabilitated project to Nananom and the people of Kotokro community.
The gesture has brought hope and renewed optimism to the community, highlighting the importance of collaborative efforts in improving education infrastructure and opportunities.
