Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly Holds Successful Monthly Cleanup Exercise in Bantama Sub-Metro

The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA), under the leadership of Mayor Hon. Richard Kwasi Ofori Boadi Agyemang, has successfully carried out its monthly cleanup exercise in the Bantama Sub-Metropolitan District.

The initiative, part of the government’s National Sanitation Exercise to combat filth, saw a massive turnout of participants, including teachers and students from prominent senior high schools in the area.

Armed Forces SHS, Islamic SHS, Adventist SHS, and Kumasi Girls’ SHS were among the schools that participated in the exercise, demonstrating their commitment to promoting environmental cleanliness and sanitation.

The students, accompanied by their teachers, worked tirelessly to clear filth and debris from the streets and markets in the Bantama Sub-Metro.

Officers from the Ghana National Fire Service also participated in the exercise, providing support and expertise to ensure a smooth and effective cleanup operation. Their presence helped to enhance the overall impact of the initiative.

The KMA has been working to improve sanitation and waste management in the metropolis, with the Mayor emphasizing the importance of community participation in maintaining a clean and healthy environment.

The Assembly has implemented various initiatives, including the “Keep Kumasi Clean; Let’s Recycle” program, aimed at promoting environmental sustainability and reducing waste .

The Mayor, Hon. Richard Kwasi Ofori Boadi Agyemang, has urged residents to take ownership of their environment and work together to maintain cleanliness in the city.

He emphasized that the KMA is committed to ensuring that Kumasi becomes a model of cleanliness and sanitation, and that the Assembly will continue to implement measures to achieve this goal.

The KMA plans to construct four compost sites across the metropolis and place large bins at vantage points to collect waste.

The Assembly will also be working with the National Investigation Bureau (NIB) to identify and prosecute individuals who litter the city.

The successful cleanup exercise in Bantama Sub-Metro is a testament to the KMA’s commitment to improving sanitation and waste management in the city.

With the continued support of residents, traders, and stakeholders, the Assembly is confident that Kumasi can become a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable city.
