Kumasi Transport Fare Crisis: Passengers, Drivers at Loggerheads

288

Passengers in Kumasi are frustrated with the exorbitant transport fares being charged by commercial drivers, particularly on heavy-traffic-prone roads.

The usual fare from Kronum to Kejetia, for instance, has increased from GHC 4 to over GHC 15, with drivers adopting a “short-short” loading system that forces passengers to pay multiple fares for a single journey .

Drivers justify the fare increments, citing heavy traffic congestion, rising fuel costs, and general economic hardships. However, passengers feel exploited and are demanding immediate intervention from the authorities.

In response, the Ashanti Regional Minister, Hon. Dr. Frank Amoakohene, has directed the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) and a special task force to investigate and address the situation.

Passengers hope that this intervention will bring relief to commuters struggling with the high cost of living in Kumasi.

For those looking for alternative transportation options, VIP bus fares from Accra to Kumasi range from GH¢ 100 to GH¢ 120 for single and double seats, respectively .
