Kwadaso Municipal Assembly Holds Solemn Funeral for Eight Government Officials

The Kwadaso Municipal Assembly in the Ashanti region held a solemn funeral ceremony on Friday, August 15, 2025, to honor the eight government officials who tragically lost their lives in a helicopter crash.

The deceased include:
Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Minister of Defence, Murtala Mohammed, Minister for Environment, Science, and Technology,Muniru Mohammed, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator,
Samuel Aboagye, Deputy Director-General for NADMO,Samuel Sarpong, Vice Chairman of the NDC,Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Mane-Twum Ampadu, Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.

The ceremony, held at the Assembly’s premises, brought together numerous dignitaries, including chiefs, religious leaders, and local entrepreneurs.

Representatives from both the governing and opposition parties attended, showcasing unity in the face of tragedy.

Notable attendees included Hon. Kingsley Nyarko, the current Member of Parliament for Kwadaso from the NPP, and S.K. Nuamah, the former Member of Parliament for the same constituency ².

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Hon. Eric Assibey, revealed that the funeral was funded by private entities and local businesses, not the Assembly’s funds.

He explained that the local ceremony was necessary because not everyone could travel to Accra for the state burial and funeral ceremony.

The decision to hold a local ceremony was also influenced by the fact that two of the deceased, Samuel Sarpong and Samuel Aboagye, were from the Ashanti region .

Hon. Assibey expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and called for a depoliticization of the incident and sentiments on social media. Hon. Frank Owusu Ansah, the MCE for Suame, commended the Kwadaso Municipality for the funeral and echoed the call for unity as the nation mourns.

The ceremony featured moments of reflection, eulogies, and symbolic acts of honor, underscoring the community’s commitment to preserving the legacy of its heroes .
