Nana Akwasi Denkyi, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for the Subin Constituency in the Ashanti region , has reaffirmed his commitment to people-centered leadership, emphasizing that the welfare and wellbeing of constituents must remain the foremost priority of any public office holder.
He noted that leadership is a social contract grounded in responsiveness, inclusivity, and accountability.
According to him, leaders who prioritize the needs of their people not only build trust but also strengthen public confidence in governance.
He cautioned against complacency, urging leaders to remain proactive, especially in times of crisis, and to provide timely support to affected individuals to help restore their livelihoods.
Nana Denkyi made these remarks during a humanitarian intervention in which he donated 10 industrial sewing machines to the Amakom branch of the Tailors and Dressmakers Association.
The beneficiaries were among those severely affected by the recent Anwona Dwom fire outbreak, which disrupted their businesses and sources of income.
The donation forms part of his broader socio-economic empowerment agenda aimed at supporting small-scale entrepreneurs and enhancing local productivity. He further assured the association that additional machines would be provided in the near future to ensure that more members benefit from the initiative.
Beyond the donation, Nana Denkyi called for collective action, appealing to fellow politicians, corporate bodies, and philanthropists to join efforts in supporting victims of the fire disaster. He stressed that coordinated interventions are essential to accelerate recovery and rebuild livelihoods.
In a related development, he revealed plans to enroll apprentices from the association into the Adwuma Wura Initiative, a skills development and employment programme spearheaded by former President John Dramani Mahama.
The initiative, he explained, is designed to equip participants with practical skills and technical expertise to enhance their competitiveness in the garment and textile industry.
Receiving the items on behalf of the association, its President, Madam Bina Abenaa Tokuwaa Simtim, expressed heartfelt appreciation to Nana Denkyi for the timely and impactful support. She assured that the machines would be used responsibly to restore business operations and improve productivity among members.
She added that the intervention represents a significant step toward rebuilding livelihoods and strengthening economic resilience at the grassroots level, highlighting the importance of collaboration between public figures and community groups in times of need.
