Lydia Seyram Alhassan launches ‘Grab A Skill Program’ to reduce youth unemployment

The Member of Parliament for the Ayawaso West Wuguon in the Greater Accra Region Hon. Lydia Seyram Alhassan on Friday 2nd February 2024 launched “Maa Lydia Grab A Skill” Program at the Medical Training and Simulation Auditorium at the University of Ghana Medical Centre.

The launch of the program was in partnership with the Member of Parliament for the Ayawaso Weet Wuguon and the Unik School of Arts And Design.

 

The Member of Parliament, who is also the Deputy Majority Chief Whip in Parliament in addressing the gathering said her primary goal as a Member of Parliament is to reduce the rate of unemployment in the country and therefore this initiative is the beginning of greater things yet to come.

Since my assumption as Member of Parliament i took it upon myself to provide all youth in my constituency with the knowledge in vocational skills and after that I will extend that vision to the University of Ghana and other areas of interest to reduce youth unemployment.

 

The launch of the program will commence with 100 trainees and will be held for three months with sessions in Graphic Design, Fashion and Design. Digital Marketing and 3D Design.

In his address at the launch, The Chief Executive Officer of Unik School of Arts Design, Mr. Mustapha Mohammad expressed his gratitude to Hon.Lydia Seyram Alhassan for fully funding the program and giving the youth of the country an opportunity to earn a living.

According to him, the trainees will be taken through tuition and practicals across the four various disciplines based on their interests areas.

This is an initiative we have always desired to embark on. Not many people may see this as relevance of what you are doing today.

The Executive Chairman of the Geneva International Model United Nations, Philip Gyanfi, expressed his gratitude to the leadership of Unik School of Arts and Design for partaking in this cause.

This initiative has been long lasting mission of Hon.Lydia Seyram Alhassan and what we are seeing today here at UGMC is that Unik School of Arts and Design has brought this vision to reality.
