The Managing Director of Metro Mass Transit Company, Lawyer Kale Caecer, has revealed that the company is currently in a distressed state, but is confident that it’s not too late to turn its fortunes around.

According to him, the company, which was established by the government of Ghana to have a huge social impact on the people, has been facing challenges due to bad management over the years.

Addressing the management and staff at the Kumasi Bantama terminal as part of a familiarization tour of regional terminals, the MD disclosed that the company’s fleet of coaches has significantly reduced from about 1000 to 140 due to lack of spare parts and other managerial and staff commitment issues.

He noted that the company’s current state is a result of years of poor management, which has hindered its ability to achieve its intended purpose.

The MD appealed to all workers in the company to join hands to revive Metro Mass, describing himself as the Chief Labourer. He emphasized that the company’s success depends on the commitment, sacrifice, and innovation of its workers. Mr. Kale stressed that the company is an important transport system created by the government, and it needs a total overhaul and reset to achieve its purpose.

The new management has bigger ambitions for Metro Mass and is committed to revamping the company. The MD promised to look into the salary structure and increment next month. He also revealed plans to add more new buses, including coastal and other brands of medium vehicles, and open the cargo space at the terminal to revamp the company.

The Deputy Manager in charge of operations, Mr. Harona Apau Wiredu, disclosed that the company’s records show that workers’ SSNIT contributions have not been paid since 2018. He appealed to workers to demonstrate their full commitment to the success of the company, devoid of politics, and assured them that the MD is ready to work with everyone who is qualified, with an open-door policy as directed by President John Dramani Mahama.

The distressed state of Metro Mass Transit Company is a call to action for all stakeholders to work together to revive the company. With the new management’s commitment to revamping the company and the workers’ dedication to their jobs, there is hope that Metro Mass can be restored to its former glory.

The company’s success is crucial, given its importance as a transport system created by the government to serve the people, particularly the poor. With the right approach, Metro Mass can achieve its purpose and provide efficient transportation services to the public.
