The Private Newspapers and Online News Publishers Association of Ghana (PRINPAG) has expressed gratitude to the Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA) for organizing a sensitization workshop on the newly launched Guide for Journalists on Illicit Financial Flows (IFFs), Progressive Taxation, Reserve-Based Lending, and Domestic Resource Mobilization Reporting.
Speaking at the workshop,Mr. Isaac Amoah, Managing Editor of The New Trust newspaper who represented PRINPAG, urged editors and senior journalists to commit fully to using the guide in their work, emphasizing the need for consistent application to harmonize reporting standards.
He said, journalists should all continue to remember and stick to the ethics of the journalism profession.
This he said is the easiest way of ensuring balance or fair reportage devoid of inaccuracies and malice.
“I believe that the guide will serve as a common reference point for our reporters, news editors, among other members working on IFFs.”He added.
The workshop aimed to equip media professionals with the necessary skills to report accurately on fiscal issues, promoting transparency and accountability in governance. By supporting initiatives like this, Ghana can take steps towards reducing the impact of IFFs and promoting fiscal justice.
According to report,Gana loses an estimated $1.4-$3 billion annually to IFFs, highlighting the need for investigative journalism to expose these crimes.
The guide provides ethical frameworks, legal context, and investigative techniques to help media expose financial crimes and promote accountability.
