The Ghana National Fire Service’s swift response to a fire distress call ensured that the disaster did not get out of hand at Adum, a business hub in Kumasi.
Thanks to the firefighters’ timely intervention, a fire outbreak at Pat Thomas Phones Shop at 6:40 a.m. on Tuesday, 5 May 2026, was contained before it could cause major damage.
The shop is located on the ground floor of a two-storey building that houses several businesses, warehouses, and a private kindergarten.
Four shops selling electronics, phones, and phone accessories were affected.
Shop managers and attendants, still recovering from emotional trauma, are not fully aware of what may have sparked the fire.
ACFO1 Peter Tetteh, Ashanti Regional Fire Commander, said they responded to the distress call at the early stages of the outbreak.
He added that the fire gutted one shop that had been converted into a warehouse and spread to three other shops.
He commended fire service personnel for their professionalism and dedication, which ensured the safety of people and goods worth millions of cedis.
Metro Director of NADMO, Mr. Godwin Dela also stated that the cause of the fire had not yet been identified.
He acknowledged that some firefighters were briefly engulfed by the flames but managed to continue working to bring the fire under control.
