The Ministry of Education has organised a luncheon for the 2021-2022 winners of the President’s Independence Day Awards in Accra.
The awardees were treated to a melody of music interspersed with pieces of advice, while they enjoyed a buffet lunch.
Exhortations
Addressing the awardees and their parents, a Deputy Director-General of the Ghana Education Service (GES) Stephen Kwaku Owusu congratulated all the awardees on making not only their families proud but their respective schools and the nation as a whole.
He urged the awardees to leverage their achievements and climbed higher on the academic ladder to win more awards.
“So, do not be complacent with what you have achieved today. Make sure that this is the starting point and whatever you have started today, sustain it such that when we are inviting best students for 2024/2025, you will be among them.
“Go and continue to make us proud and make your parents proud,” the Deputy DG charged the awardees.
Welcoming the awardees to the event ground, the Director, Pre-tertiary Education of the Ministry of Education, Richard Baffour Awuah, on behalf of the acting Chief Director of the ministry, Divine Y. Ayidzoe, said the achievement of the awardees would not bring honours to them alone but to their schools and the nation as a whole.
“We are here today not only to celebrate their achievements but also to give due regards to our values and morals such as disciplines, hard work, passion and zeal for learning,” he said.
Awardees
The Nestle Ghana Limited sponsored award is an annual event which recognises and rewards young brilliant students between the ages of 14 and 19 from across the regions.
The 72 awardees were selected based on their exceptional academic performances in the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).
The overall best male and female students from public schools were also selected based on the raw scores obtained in the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).
There was also a category for persons who are challenged.
Each awardee received a plaque, a certificate, an amount of GH¢3,000, a laptop and a full year supply of Nestle products.
