The Paramount Chief of the Moshie in Ghana, Naaba Wobgo II, has expressed appreciation for President John Dramani Mahama’s commitment to resolving the Bawku conflict through a traditional mediation initiative led by the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II. The Moshie community is deeply invested in finding a peaceful solution to the conflict, given the historical ties between the Moshie people and the feuding Mamprusi and Kusasi factions.

During the second general meeting of the Ghana Moshie Traditional Area, Naaba Wobgo II emphasized the need for both groups to embrace cultural diversity and forge stronger alliances to drive sustainable development in the region. The meeting aimed to assess progress in establishing a traditional village and palace, known as Zindiya, in Nalerigu in the North East Region.

The Moshie Paramountcy was officially established in November 2023, when the Nayiri, Naa Bohagu Mahami Abdulai Sheriga, installed Naaba Wobgo II as the first Paramount Chief of the Moshie in Ghana and donated substantial land for settlement.

Historical accounts reveal that the Moshie people originated from a warrior named Atalmiro, who migrated from Gambaga to Zecco in present-day Burkina Faso. His descendants settled in various communities in Ghana and Burkina Faso, with the Mamprugu and Moshie people sharing a centuries-old relationship.

Chief Yusif Alhaji Adam Timptori, speaking on behalf of Naaba Wobgo II, debunked misconceptions about the Moshie people’s nationality and emphasized the importance of understanding one’s roots to foster cultural appreciation and unity. He urged the Mamprusi and Kusasi to lay down their arms and unite as descendants of a shared heritage, promoting peace, cultural harmony, and sustainable development in the region.
