MTN Ghana, as part of this year’s ’30 Days of Y’ello Care,’ has inaugurated a newly installed containerized computer lab, digital borehole, smart farm, and new washrooms at the Aburi Presbyterian Secondary Technical School in the Eastern region. The handover ceremony took place at the school premises in Aburi to mark the culmination of activities for the 2024 edition of ’30 Days of Y’ello Care.’
Working with the theme “Education for Rural and Remote Communities – Learn Today, Lead Tomorrow,” MTN Ghana employee volunteers implemented projects to help improve conditions in selected schools.
At the end of the 30 Days of Y’ello Care, MTN employee volunteer activities impacted over 40,000 students in twenty-five senior high schools across the country.
During the closing ceremony in Aburi, the CEO of MTN Ghana, Stephen Blewett, stated, “The theme for this year’s Y’ello Care serves as a reminder that our educational system must prepare our students for the opportunities that lie ahead. This is what we aimed to achieve today through the provision of the ICT lab, the digitally controlled borehole, and the smart farm.”
Mr Blewett said, “I hope through this gesture, we have given the students a glimpse of what the future holds and ignited their curiosity enough for them to embrace the digital challenge and take it forward.”
Madam Joyce Appiah, the Headmistress of the school, expressed her gratitude for the support and resources provided through Y’ello Care. She emphasized the long-term benefits for the students and the school’s educational programs. She said, “MTN Ghana has shown care for Aburi Presbyterian Senior High Technical School, and these resources will help improve academic outcomes.”
Hon. John Ntim Fordjour, Deputy Minister of Education, commended the employee volunteers of MTN Ghana for their significant contribution to modern education and community development. He also praised MTN Ghana’s continuous partnership with the Ministry of Education to implement projects that support the government’s efforts in the sector.
Dignitaries who attended the event included the Deputy Minister of Education, John Ntim Fordjour, members of Aburi Traditional Council.
MTN Y’ello Care is an annual employee volunteerism program across the MTN Group, allowing staff to participate in community development projects in countries where MTN operates. The initiative, which was started in 2007, has had a significant impact on millions of people and hundreds of communities across the continent.
The 21 Days of Y’ello Care program takes place in June every year. However, to commemorate the 30th Anniversary of MTN’s operations this year, the 21 Days of Y’ello Care has been extended to 30 Days.
