Hundreds of women tailors and dressmakers across Ghana have received a major boost in business development and digital transformation through the MTN Nkosuo initiative spearheaded by MTN Ghana in partnership with Universal Merchant Bank (UMB) and Kola Market.

The programme, organised by MobileMoney LTD (MoMo from MTN), targeted members of the women’s wing of the Ghana National Tailors and Dressmakers Association during their maiden national mini conference held at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology.

The initiative focused on equipping women-led Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) with practical knowledge in bookkeeping, digital marketing, financial management, and mobile money operations to help improve productivity and profitability.

Participants were also trained in the use of digital tools such as the MyMTN App and other online business platforms to strengthen customer engagement and expand their businesses.

Speaking in an interview with journalists, Charles Osei-Wusu, Manager for Business Development at MobileMoney Fintech Limited, described the initiative as a strategic intervention aimed at helping small businesses embrace digital transformation and remain competitive in today’s evolving market environment.

According to him, the MTN Nkosuo initiative was introduced to provide entrepreneurs with practical business knowledge, mentorship, and access to digital solutions capable of supporting sustainable business growth.
He disclosed that the programme would be replicated in major cities including Accra, Takoradi, and Tamale as part of efforts to extend support to more entrepreneurs across the country.

Mr. Osei-Wusu further noted that artisans remain key contributors to Ghana’s economic growth and employment generation, stressing that empowering them with technology and financial literacy would significantly strengthen the local economy.

Chief Executive Officer of Kola Market, Marie-Reine Seshie, commended the collaboration and stated that empowering women entrepreneurs with digital and financial skills is essential for building resilient and profitable businesses.

She observed that many women-owned enterprises possess enormous growth potential but require continuous support and training to thrive in an increasingly competitive business environment.

Also speaking at the event, Edem Knight-Tay, Head of Corporate Communications at UMB, reiterated the bank’s commitment to supporting SMEs through innovative financial products tailored to the needs of entrepreneurs.

Participants were introduced to several UMB business solutions designed to help small business owners improve financial management and expand their operations.

The MTN Nkosuo initiative forms part of broader efforts by MTN Ghana to promote financial inclusion, entrepreneurship, and digital empowerment among MSMEs through strategic partnerships and skills development programmes across Ghana.
