A heated controversy has erupted within the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Ashanti Region, with 41 out of 47 Constituency Chairmen issuing a press statement condemning Hon. Irene Naa Torshie’s parallel campaign tour in the region.

The chairmen expressed deep disappointment and concern over Naa Torshie’s decision to schedule a campaign tour in the Ashanti Region, coinciding with the approved tour of former Second Lady, Hajia Samira Bawumia.

They deemed this move as “inappropriate” and “inconsistent with party guidelines,” which prohibit overlapping campaign activities that may create confusion, tension, or clashes between members.

According to the statement, Naa Torshie’s actions have disrupted the smooth conduct of Hajia Samira’s campaign, forcing her to suspend her activities to avoid confrontation.

The chairmen questioned Naa Torshie’s motives, asking why she chose to target the Ashanti Region when other regions were available for her campaign.

The statement highlighted the potential for confusion and tension, emphasizing that the Ashanti Region is the heartbeat of the NPP and that the chairmen will not allow acts of indiscipline to undermine the party’s progress. They called on the National Executive Committee (NEC) and the Regional Executive Committee (REC) to investigate the matter and take necessary steps to prevent similar incidents.

The chairmen also commended Hajia Samira’s commitment to peace and unity, noting that her decision to suspend her campaign demonstrated her prioritization of party cohesion over personal interests.

The controversy has sparked concerns about the conduct of internal party processes and the need for strict adherence to campaign protocols to preserve party unity. The Ashanti Region Constituency Chairmen have vowed to ensure a peaceful, fair, and respectful internal political process and have urged all aspirants and their teams to do the same.

The development comes amid heightened tensions within the NPP as the party prepares for its upcoming internal processes. The incident has raised questions about the party’s ability to manage internal conflicts and maintain unity among its members.

The NPP Ashanti Region Constituency Chairmen have called on all party loyalists to remain calm and committed to safeguarding the unity of the party.
