In a strategic blend of humanitarian outreach and grassroots political engagement, the Ashanti Regional Treasurer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr Marvin Phillip Frazer Norman , has spearheaded the donation of essential medicines to selected communities within the Afigya Kwabre North District.
The presentation, made through the Constituency Chairman and local executives, is intended to support Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compounds across the district—facilities that serve as critical lifelines for primary healthcare delivery in rural and peri-urban areas.
This initiative marks the first phase of a broader regional intervention, with Afigya Kwabre North becoming the inaugural beneficiary district.
According to Mr. Norman, the exercise is part of a deliberate and coordinated effort to extend similar support to at least four additional districts within the Ashanti Region before the close of the week.
Speaking during the presentation, Mr. Norman emphasized that the initiative reflects both a commitment to community welfare and a strategic approach to reconnecting with the grassroots. He noted that access to basic healthcare remains a pressing concern for many communities, and interventions such as these are crucial in bridging gaps in service delivery.
“This is not merely a political activity; it is a social responsibility,” he stated. “Our goal is to ensure that our people, especially those in underserved areas, have access to essential medical supplies while we continue to build trust and strengthen our connection with the electorate.”
The donation drive forms part of a wider mobilization agenda by the NDC in the Ashanti Region, a traditional stronghold of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), where the NDC has set its sights on improving its electoral performance.
Mr. Norman expressed confidence that sustained engagement and impactful community interventions would help the party secure at least 50 percent of the vote share in the region in upcoming elections.
He further acknowledged the contributions and unwavering support of key individuals who have played instrumental roles in the initiative.
Among them are Wofa Frimpong, Lawyer Otoo, Ambassador Ibrahim Yaghi, and Dr. Frank Amoakohene, Ashanti regional minister , as well as members of what he described as “Team Marvin,” whose collective efforts continue to drive the outreach forward.
Local party executives and community members have welcomed the gesture, describing it as timely and impactful. Many noted that CHPS compounds often face shortages of basic medicines, making such donations vital for effective healthcare delivery.
As the exercise expands to other districts in the coming days, political observers say the initiative underscores a growing trend of combining social interventions with political strategy—an approach increasingly shaping the dynamics of electoral politics in Ghana.
With the hashtag #Nyametease—loosely interpreted as “God understands”—Mr. Norman and his team appear determined to sustain their efforts, blending service with strategy as they work toward reshaping the NDC’s fortunes in the Ashanti Region.
