A high-ranking member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Alhaji Sulemana Saeed, also known as Chairman Gawo, has gone into hiding due to death threats from fellow party members.
Chairman Gawo, who serves as the NPP Zongo Communication caucus chair, claims that his life is in danger after he allegedly obtained a secret recording of a plot to tarnish the image of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the party’s former Vice President.
According to Chairman Gawo, the recording reveals a plan by some party members to spread false information about Dr. Bawumia, targeting to undermine his popularity within the party. Despite Chairman Gawo’s agreement not to make the recording public after the plotters pleaded with him, he claims that they still doubt his intentions and have subjected him to attacks and death threats.
“I’m currently hiding in the bush due to the death threats from my own NPP people,” Chairman Gawo revealed. “Why should we be doing this to ourselves when we want power? A supposed fight that comes with unity.”
Chairman Gawo, known for advocating unity within the party, is now seeking protection and an end to the internal conflicts that have put his life at risk. The situation highlights the deep-seated divisions within the NPP and raises concerns about the party’s internal dynamics.
