The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Obuasi, Faustilove Appiah Kannin, has commissioned six development projects valued at GH¢1,182,309.68 in four communities in the municipality.
The projects comprise four mechanised boreholes and two educational facilities — an eight-seater washroom and a refurbished kindergarten block for the Bediem Experimental Basic School.
The boreholes were commissioned at Awonakrom, Bediem, Kulem and the Railways enclave to improve access to potable water for residents.
Addressing beneficiaries, Madam Kannin urged community members to take ownership of the projects to ensure their sustainability.
She expressed concern over the poor maintenance culture often associated with public facilities and appealed to residents to protect the investments.
“These projects are meant to serve you for a long time. It is your responsibility to ensure they are properly maintained and used for their intended purpose,” she said.
The MCE attributed the successful execution of the projects to government support and expressed gratitude to President John Dramani Mahama for making resources available.
She also commended the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr Frank Amoakohene, for his leadership and support in facilitating development in the municipality.
On behalf of the Bediem Experimental Basic School, the Municipal Director of Education, Alfred George Koomson, thanked the Assembly for the intervention and encouraged staff and pupils to maintain the facilities.
Residents in the beneficiary communities expressed appreciation for the projects, particularly the boreholes, noting that access to clean water had been a major challenge.
“With the water situation in some areas affected by pollution, this intervention is timely. Water is life, and this will greatly improve our living conditions,” a resident said.
The commissioning exercise, which spanned two days, was attended by the Presiding Member, David Odoom, the Municipal Coordinating Director, Joyce Akosua Angmorteh, Assembly Members and staff of the Assembly.
The six projects form part of 19 others due for commissioning by June this year, as part of efforts by the Obuasi Municipal Assembly to improve basic infrastructure and enhance the quality of life for residents.
