Hon Anwel Sadat, Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Oforikrom in the Ashanti Region, has underscored the need for stringent measures to curb financial irregularities in Ghana’s public sector.

Speaking at a recent meeting with Chief Directors and key audit heads,Hon Sadat stressed that persistent waste of national resources sends a wrong signal about the country and threatens to undermine the nation’s hard-won peace, stability, and confidence.

Hon Sadat emphasized that Ghana can no longer afford to lose scarce resources due to avoidable infractions, urging the team to minimize such incidents.

He reminded them that specialized courts are now in place to prosecute breaches of financial laws, marking a new chapter in accountability.

“Accountability will no longer be optional,” Sadat declared. “Discipline in public financial management is not just a requirement; it’s a duty we owe to every Ghanaian.”

The MCE’s stance comes amid growing concerns over financial mismanagement in Ghana’s public sector. Recent audit reports have revealed widespread irregularities, including payroll discrepancies and uncollected revenue.

Hon Sadat’s call for accountability echoes the sentiments of governance experts, who stress that effective financial management is crucial for national development.

The Oforikrom MCE’s commitment to driving infractions down to the barest minimum is seen as a positive step towards promoting fiscal responsibility and transparency.
