The Municipal Chief Executive for Oforikrom in Ghana’s Ashanti Region, Anwel Sadat, has organized an impactful Eight-Day Free NHIS (National Health Insurance Scheme) Registration Exercise.
This initiative has successfully registered over 5,000 residents, significantly enhancing their access to essential healthcare services.
The free registration exercise comprehensively covered all 15 Electoral Areas within the Oforikrom Municipality, including:

3. Oforikrom East
4. Oforikrom West
5. Ayigya
6. Ahenbronum
7. Tech
8. Bomso
9. Aketego
10. Kentinkrono
11. Anwomaso
12. Ayeduase-Kotei
13. Deduako
14. Appiadu/Boadi/Emina/Kokoben
15. Aprade
This initiative aligns with the vision of President John Dramani Mahama for Ghana to achieve Universal Health Coverage by 2030, as outlined in Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 3.8. SDG 3.8 emphasizes ensuring all individuals have access to needed healthcare services without facing financial hardship, a key aspect of promoting health and well-being for all.
By providing free NHIS registration, the Oforikrom Municipal Assembly, under the leadership of Answel Sadat, has taken a significant step towards improving healthcare access for residents. The National Health Insurance Scheme is a critical component of Ghana’s healthcare system, aiming to reduce out-of-pocket payments for healthcare and protect individuals from financial risk due to medical expenses.
The exercise underscores the importance of initiatives that promote health coverage and accessibility, contributing to broader efforts to strengthen Ghana’s healthcare system and improve population health outcomes.
