Former Minister of Education and Energy, Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh, is scheduled to deliver a public lecture at Coventry University in the United Kingdom on Wednesday, October 7, 2026.
The lecture, which is expected to bring together academics, students, policymakers and other stakeholders, will focus on the theme: “Education, Energy and Sustainable Development: Preparing Future Leaders for Africa’s Transformation.”
Dr Opoku Prempeh, a former Member of Parliament for Manhyia South and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Vice-Presidential Candidate for the 2024 general election, will participate as the Special Guest for the event.
The lecture is expected to provide an opportunity for discussions on the role of education, energy security and sustainable development in shaping Africa’s future, particularly in preparing young people to assume leadership responsibilities and contribute to the continent’s transformation.
Experience
Dr Opoku Prempeh brings extensive experience in public service and governance to the lecture, having served in key ministerial positions, including Minister of Education and Minister of Energy.
His experience in both sectors is expected to inform discussions on the relationship between quality education, energy development and sustainable economic growth.
The lecture is also expected to examine the need for African countries to equip the next generation with the knowledge, skills and leadership capabilities required to address emerging development challenges.
Academia
Dr Opoku Prempeh will be joined by senior officials of Coventry University, including Prof. Andrew Turner, Vice-Provost and Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Education), and Prof. Jenna Ward, Dean of the College of Business and Law.
Their participation is expected to broaden the discussion on the role of higher education institutions in developing future leaders and supporting sustainable development.
The engagement will also provide a platform for participants to explore how universities, governments and other institutions can collaborate to promote innovation, skills development and sustainable solutions to Africa’s development challenges.

The public lecture is scheduled to take place from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, October 7, 2026.
It will be held at Square One Bar, The Hub, 4 Jordan Wl, Coventry, CV1 5QT, in the United Kingdom.
The event forms part of efforts to promote intellectual engagement on issues of strategic importance to Africa and to encourage dialogue between African policymakers and the international academic community.
