Oti regional minister addresses deplorable roads and bridges in Nkwanta south

Oti Regional Minister John Kwadzo Gyapong conducted an inspection of the Nkwanta South Municipal to assess the condition of several infrastructure projects. The focus was on the deplorable state of roads and bridges, many of which have been left unfinished for extended periods. The Minister’s visit aimed to address the critical issues impacting the local communities and their ability to function effectively.

During the inspection, Minister Gyapong highlighted the abandoned cocoa roads, which have been left to deteriorate, and the bridges, some of which have become death traps. These conditions have severely restricted movement and isolated several communities, hindering the supply of goods and services. The Minister expressed his commitment to ensuring that these vital projects are completed without further delay. He stated that immediate steps would be taken to fix the roads and bridges to alleviate the hardships faced by the residents.

In his assessment, the Minister pointed out a specific case involving a contract awarded to a female contractor in 2016. Despite the passage of several years, the project remains less than 30% complete. The contractor has been accused of creating hazardous conditions on the roads and then abandoning the work, leaving the local population at risk.

Speaking to news men,Hon. John Kwadzo Gyapong emphasized his commitment to the immediate repair of the Bontibor bridge. He recognized the bridge’s importance for local businesses and promised to facilitate its swift completion. Furthermore, he brought the Oti Regional FIDA road team to assess the situation and determine the best approach for the bridge’s repair. He instructed the team to prioritize the safety and functionality of the bridges, ensuring they meet the required standards.

Felix Bakobie, the Oti Regional FIDA Road boss, assured the public that they would do their utmost to improve the Bontibor and Tutukpene bridges. He estimated that the construction of the bridges would be completed within a timeframe of 3-4 months, contingent upon the allocation of the necessary financial resources. The regional administration is keen on ensuring that these essential infrastructure projects are completed to support the economic activities and improve the quality of life for the residents of Nkwanta South.
