Planned Power Outage to Affect Parts of Kumasi as ECG Undertakes Critical Maintenance Works

Residents and businesses across several communities in Kumasi are set to experience a temporary interruption in electricity supply following a scheduled shutdown of the Boadi Primary Substation by the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).
The planned outage forms part of essential maintenance works being carried out by ECG’s Sub-Transmission Line Maintenance Team. According to officials, the exercise will involve the installation and reconnection of Boadi 2 cables at the Main Distribution Junction (DJ), after recent repair works were completed on a previously faulted cable by the Sub-Transmission Cable Maintenance Team.
ECG explained that the temporary shutdown is necessary to ensure the safe and successful completion of the cable installation, which is expected to improve power reliability and prevent future disruptions in the affected areas.
Areas to Be Affected
The outage will impact multiple feeders and their associated communities, cutting across key residential, commercial, and institutional zones within the Kumasi metropolis.
Oduom Feeder @ Main OF
Residents in Boadi Warehouse, Oduom, and parts of Aprade, along with surrounding communities, will experience the interruption.
Emina Feeder @ Main OF
Communities including Boadi Township, Apemso, and Emina will also be affected during the maintenance period.
Kentinkrono Feeder @ Main OF
The outage will extend to Kentinkrono, Nsenie, Tech Police area, Ayigya Affordable Housing enclave, Tech Taxi Rank, Maxima Junction, and nearby locations.
Ayeduase Feeder @ Main OF
Areas such as the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) School of Allied Health Sciences, Ayeduase, parts of Boadi, and sections of Kotei will also be impacted.
KNUST Feeder @ Main OF
Electricity supply will be interrupted at the main KNUST campus and adjoining facilities, including the Ayigya ECG District Office, Banivillas Hostel, Ghana Hostel, Georgia Hostel, and surrounding areas.
ECG Assures Improved Reliability
ECG has assured the public that the maintenance work is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the power distribution network in the Ashanti Region. The company emphasized that while the temporary inconvenience is regrettable, the long-term benefits include enhanced system stability, reduced fault occurrences, and improved service delivery.
Residents and business operators in the affected areas have been advised to take the necessary precautions ahead of the outage, including powering down sensitive equipment and making alternative arrangements where necessary.
The power distributor further urged the public to remain patient and cooperative as its engineers work diligently to complete the exercise within the shortest possible time.
As Kumasi continues to expand rapidly, infrastructure upgrades such as this remain critical to sustaining reliable electricity supply and supporting economic growth across the metropolis.
