A wave of shock and grief has swept through Kumasi following the tragic death of a well-known beautician and entrepreneur, Sally Benson, who reportedly died after an alleged assault involving her boyfriend, Francis Arthur.
Arthur, a 48-year-old businessman, has been arraigned before the Asokore Mampong District Court in connection with the incident. The case, which has drawn significant public attention, was presided over by Her Worship Hilda Esther Wryter on Tuesday. Arthur is expected to reappear before the court on May 8, 2026, as investigations continue.
According to preliminary police reports, the incident occurred on April 14, 2026, at Ayigya-Maxima, a suburb of Kumasi. It is alleged that the deceased, accompanied by a female friend, visited Arthur’s residence after receiving information that another woman had earlier been at the premises.
Police sources indicate that tensions escalated when Arthur returned home, resulting in a heated confrontation between the couple. The situation reportedly turned violent, with Arthur allegedly assaulting Benson during the altercation.
Chief Inspector Samuel Agyare, who has been providing updates on the case, confirmed that Benson collapsed shortly after the incident. In what appears to be an attempt to save her life, Arthur reportedly rushed her to the KNUST Hospital using her own vehicle. However, she was pronounced dead on arrival by medical personnel.
Following the incident, Benson’s body was transferred to the morgue at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, where it remains pending preservation and autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.
The case has since sparked conversations across Kumasi and beyond, particularly within the beauty and entrepreneurial community, where Benson was widely admired for her work and influence. Many have taken to social media to express condolences and call for justice.
Law enforcement authorities have assured the public of a thorough and impartial investigation. Police say further details will be made available as the case progresses through the judicial process.
As the legal proceedings unfold, the tragic circumstances surrounding Benson’s death serve as a sobering reminder of the devastating consequences of domestic disputes and violence, reinforcing calls from advocacy groups for increased awareness and preventive measures.
The court is expected to reconvene on May 8, when the accused will reappear to face further proceedings.
