Tensions are running high at the Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo) as National Democratic Congress (NDC) supporters and staff members strongly oppose the proposed appointment of Ing. Mark Baah, a known New Patriotic Party (NPP) sympathizer, as the company’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO).

Baah’s initial appointment as CEO in 2020 was revoked due to internal NPP competition, but he’s now being considered for the top spot again, just three months shy of retirement ¹. This move has sparked concerns among GRIDCo staff and NDC sympathizers, who argue that more qualified NDC-aligned candidates should be considered for the role.

Critics point to former GRIDCo CEO Mr. Amuna, who’s allegedly using his influence to push Baah’s appointment, despite being an NDC supporter himself. Amuna’s motives are being questioned, with some suggesting he’s prioritizing shared business interests over party loyalty.

The staff are planning a protest march to the Ministry of Energy to express their dissatisfaction, emphasizing that the energy sector should not be further politicized by appointing someone with strong NPP ties.
