The Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, has assured the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, that major road, health and educational infrastructure projects across the Ashanti Region are progressing steadily, with many expected to be completed before the end of the year.
The Minister gave the assurance when he joined the Asantehene and traditional authorities at the Akwasidae Festival held at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi.
The event brought together several government officials, including the Chief Executive Officer of the Tree Crops Development Authority (TCDA), Dr. Andy Osei Okrah, the Mayor of Kumasi, Hon. Richard Ofori-Agyemang Boadi (King Zuba), the Municipal Chief Executive for Asokwa, Hon. Ben Abdallah Alhassan (Amoh Kamel), members of the Regional Security Council (REGSEC), as well as leaders of both the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP).
During his engagement with the Asantehene, Dr. Amoakohene presented a comprehensive update on ongoing government projects aimed at accelerating socio-economic development across the region.
According to him, several critical road projects are currently under construction and making significant progress. These include the Ejisu–Kwaaso–Essienimpong Road, Sewua–Feyiase–Prabon Road, Ejura–Sekyedumase Town Roads, Fomena and Dompoase Town Roads, Mankranso–Abuakwa Road, Bekwai Roundabout–Santasi Roundabout Road, Ahodwo Roundabout–The Ark Road, Anwia Nkwanta–Santasi Roundabout Road, Obuasi Town Roads, Suame Roundabout project, Agogo Town Roads, and the Mosi Panin–Maame Krobo Road.
The Regional Minister further informed the Asantehene that substantial progress has also been made on major health and educational infrastructure projects, notably the Sewua Regional Hospital, the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) Cardiovascular Centre, the KNUST Medical Centre, as well as several educational infrastructure projects being funded through the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund).
He expressed optimism that many of these projects would be completed and commissioned within the year to improve access to quality healthcare, education and transportation.
Dr. Amoakohene also disclosed that work would soon commence on additional strategic projects, including the Bosomtwe–Kuntanase Road, the Atwea–Asuafu Road and the completion of the Sataso Bridge.
He noted that the projects form part of the government’s broader agenda under President John Dramani Mahama to modernise infrastructure, stimulate economic growth and improve living standards across the Ashanti Region.
“The Government remains fully committed to delivering quality infrastructure that will improve the lives of the people of Ashanti and support the region’s economic development,” he stated.
The Minister expressed gratitude to President John Dramani Mahama and the Minister for Roads and Highways for prioritising infrastructure development in the region.
He also paid glowing tribute to Otumfuo Osei Tutu II for his visionary leadership and invaluable guidance, describing the Asantehene as a unifying figure whose wisdom continues to inspire government and stakeholders in their collective pursuit of sustainable development for Asanteman.
The Akwasidae Festival, one of the most significant events on the Asante traditional calendar, continues to serve as an important platform for government officials to engage the Asantehene on development initiatives while reaffirming their commitment to the progress and prosperity of the Ashanti Region.
