Residents Commend Asokwa Municipal Assembly For Halting Floods Situation

Residents at Ahensan and Atonsu as well as other low lying areas in the Asokwa Municipality have commended the Asokwa Municipal Assembly for working to halt FLOOD situations in their areas.

Speaking to this reporter during a tour of their areas, respondents said they had been enduring several bouts of rainfall situations in their communities this year without seeing floods.

This, they said was not the situation two years ago and therefore applauded the Assembly for doing an excellent job in halting the flooding in their communities.

RESIDENTS:
Richard Andoh, a resident at Atonsu S-line said his community especially where he lived was always submerged under water anytime it rained heavily.

The situation, he said had persisted for close to 10 years he lived there but narrated that since the Assembly constructed a proper bridge over the area and dredged the river he has not seen floods for two years.

Yaa Amankwah, a resident at Ahensan said she lives close to the Susan River and anytime it rained the water body overflowed its banks and got her house flooded.

She tearfully noted that at times the floods got so severe that they had to run and sleep at friends homes because the entire area got filled up with water.

Franklin Yeboah, a resident at New Asokwa said his area was a low lying one and two years ago they had to move out at night since torrential rains had caused floods to overpower them.

He noted the dredging efforts of the Asokwa Municipal Assembly had reversed the unfortunate situation for two years, adding that incidentally the area has seen most rainfall pattern this year.

NPP EXECUTIVES:
Papa Yaw Asare Bediako John,  Secretary of the NPP constituency branch at Asokwa commended the Assembly for working excellently well to halt flood situations in the constituency

He noted that the MCE had taken so much interest in halting the floods in the communities, adding that he was happy he has been able to curb the incidences

Kwame Wiafe Akenten, coordinator of the NPP in Kuwait-Oti-Aprabo electoral area praised the Asokwa MCE and the Assembly for their relentless efforts in halting the worrying situations as a result of floods.

He said anytime it rained heavily in Ashanti previously, Asokwa was mentioned as the worst hit but was happy that for two years the Assembly had overturned the tide and the negative commentary.
