Residents run for their lives at Manso -Tontokrom over military brutalities

Residents of Manso- Tontokrom in the Amansie South District of the Ashanti Region had it tough last Thursday when military officers raided the town and allegedly beat anyone they met on their way .

The heavily armed soldiers, numbering about 50, descended on the indigenes over mining concession.

The Residents, told newsmen that the military raided the community at 1pm in seven military vehicles.

According to them, a lot of the youth were assaulted including women and School children, a development which subjected most of the residents into severe beatings leaving most of them to  sustain degrees of injuries while others sought asylum in the bush.

They told the media that, the invasion of the military has seen teachers, students and nurses fleeing the area.

Adding that most of the students and their teachers in the area have not since retuned from their hideout.

RESIDENTS

The assembly member for the area, Hon Mark Amponsah however, discounted this claim.

He told this reporter that he has informed his DCE so they are working on it to bring peace in the community.

Hon Amponsah wondered why the Ghana Armed Forces could be controlled by Asanko mining company without any provocation by resorting to raiding, beating innocent people.
