The member of parliament for Subin constituency, Hon. Eugene Boakye Antwi has paid a visit to Traders at the Kejetia market in Ashanti region.
His visit came after the Kumasi kejetia market was shut down by management of the Kumasi city market limited on Thursday 16th March, 2023, morning until 12:00pm, due to the fire incident that occurred in the Kejetia market complex in the late afternoon hours of Wednesday, 15th March, 2023.Hon. Eugene Boakye Antwi, MP for the area, accompanied by some constituency executives were led by the security personnel from the Ghana National fire Service to get first hand information on the fire outbreak at market complex.
The former Deputy works and housing minister, after a thorough inspection of the razed potions of the market, commiserated with the traders who were mostly affected by the unfortunate incident.
” I have come to the grounds and the information given me by the Fire Service personnel on the grounds reveals that, the fire started at a spot where adhesives and combustible products are sold. And that made it difficulty for firemen to contain the fire at the initial stage. I’m also informed that sprinklers at the time of the incident were not able to go to the direction of the affected areas but on a different direction, causing more damage to about 35 shops and properties.”
“Our hopes were such that, fire outbreaks would be a thing of the past with this new market facilities, but it is quite unfortunate to witness something of this sort. However, the Ghana National fire Service is yet to bring out their report, so let’s wait for the report to ascertain the causes and the mechanism to be putting in place to prevent future eventualities,” He stated.
I would therefore urge all to calm down and support our brothers and sisters who had their shops affected with prayers, and wait on the report and to see the next action by government,”He concluded.
