A tragic road accident has claimed the life of a teacher and left three others seriously injured in the Mampong Municipality of the Ashanti Region.
The incident, which occurred late yesterday afternoon, involved four teachers from Hwidiem M/A Basic School located in the Ninting Electoral Area.
According to reports, the educators were traveling when the accident happened under circumstances that are yet to be fully established.
One of the victims, identified as 37-year-old Constance Karikari, tragically succumbed to her injuries shortly after being rushed to the Mampong Hospital.
Her untimely death has sent shockwaves through the local education community and beyond, with colleagues, pupils, and residents expressing deep sorrow over the loss.
The three other teachers involved in the crash, including one male teacher, sustained serious injuries but are currently in stable condition.
They are receiving medical care at the same hospital, where health professionals are closely monitoring their recovery.
The Assembly Member for the Ninting Electoral Area, Mr. Nicholas Osei Wusu, has since visited the injured victims at the hospital. He also extended his condolences to the bereaved family of the deceased teacher, describing the incident as a painful loss not only to the school but to the entire community.
“This is a very difficult moment for us all. We have lost a dedicated teacher, and our thoughts are with her family. We are also praying for the speedy recovery of the injured,” he said during his visit.
In response to the tragedy, authorities of Hwidiem M/A Basic School have announced the temporary closure of the school .
The decision is aimed at allowing both staff and students time to process the incident and grieve the loss of their colleague and teacher.
Education stakeholders in the municipality have also begun calling for increased attention to road safety, particularly for teachers and other public servants who frequently commute within and across districts as part of their duties.
Meanwhile, investigations are expected to be conducted to determine the exact cause of the accident, as community members continue to mourn the loss of a life described by many as committed to shaping the future of young learners.
