The Office of the Ashanti Regional Minister has issued a statement condemning the comments made by Alex King Nartey, a member of the Ghana National Fire Service’s Public Relations Department.

Nartey had questioned the Regional Minister’s conduct during a recent visit to the Adum PZ fire scene, suggesting that the Minister’s firm demand for answers and urgent response was merely “shouting to create an impression for social media.”

Mr Hussein Ibrahim, Spokesperson to the Regional Minster described Nartey’s comments as “unprovoked and disrespectful,” and has provided a detailed account of the events surrounding the fire. According to the statement, the Minister had visited the fire site multiple times, engaging with affected traders and coordinating emergency support. Despite assurances from the Fire Commander that five tenders were available and filled with water, it was later discovered that the tenders were empty, contradicting earlier assurances.

The Regional Minister’s office has called for an investigation into Nartey’s conduct, stating that his actions “betray a shocking lack of professionalism and responsibility.” The office has also posed several questions, including whether it is ethical for the Fire Service to provide false information to a Regional Minister during an emergency, and whether it is ethical for a PR officer to insult social media users and belittle victims and local leadership during a crisis.

The statement concludes by emphasizing the Regional Minister’s commitment to truth, accountability, and the safety of the people.

As the situation unfolds, it remains to be seen how the Ghana National Fire Service will respond to the allegations and concerns raised by the Regional Minister’s office.
