The commendation came during activities marking Ghana Month, a period dedicated to celebrating the nation’s rich cultural heritage and promoting indigenous industries. In her address, Vice President Opoku-Agyemang emphasized the critical need for Ghana to shift its focus from the mere extraction of raw gold to a more sustainable and economically beneficial model centered on craftsmanship, innovation, and value addition. She noted that initiatives such as the Heritage Village represent a bold step toward redefining Ghana’s position in the global gold value chain.
“Ghana has long been recognized as a leading gold producer, but the time has come for us to harness our resources more effectively by investing in local talent, refining our craftsmanship, and exporting finished products that reflect our identity and creativity,” she stated.
The Vice President further highlighted that empowering local enterprises within the gold industry would not only create employment opportunities but also retain greater economic value within the country. She underscored government’s commitment to supporting policies and partnerships that prioritize industrialization and local content development.
The Heritage Village initiative by GoldBod Jewellery Limited is designed to provide a platform for local jewellers, designers, and small-scale enterprises to exhibit their work, connect with broader markets, and gain recognition both locally and internationally. The exhibition featured intricately crafted jewellery pieces, traditional ornaments, and modern gold-based designs that reflect Ghana’s cultural richness and artistic ingenuity.
Stakeholders at the event echoed the Vice President’s sentiments, calling for increased investment in skills development, technology, and infrastructure to support the growth of Ghana’s jewellery industry. Many participants expressed optimism that sustained collaboration between government and private sector players would help position Ghana as a hub for premium gold products.
The initiative also aligns with broader national objectives aimed at strengthening the gold sector through transparency, innovation, and structured market systems. By promoting value addition, Ghana stands to maximize the benefits of its natural resources while building a resilient and diversified economy.
As Ghana continues to celebrate its heritage, the Heritage Village initiative serves as a powerful reminder of the country’s untapped potential—not only as a producer of raw materials but as a leader in craftsmanship and creative enterprise.
